What information we collect

When you use the valuation checker, we collect the following information:

  • Your vehicle registration number
  • Vehicle mileage at the time of the incident
  • Date of loss (the date the vehicle was written off or declared a total loss)
  • Your insurer's settlement offer amount
  • Your UK postcode (used to improve the relevance of market valuations)
  • Your assessment of the vehicle's pre-incident condition
  • Your email address (used to deliver your paid report if you purchase one)
  • Your insurer's name (optional, if provided)
  • Any additional information you choose to provide

We also collect technical information automatically:

  • Your IP address, stored as a one-way cryptographic hash for abuse-prevention purposes only. We cannot reverse this hash to retrieve the original IP address.
  • Standard web server access logs (request timestamps, response codes).

How we use your information

  • To identify your vehicle and retrieve independent valuation evidence
  • To produce and deliver your paid valuation report if you purchase one
  • To prevent abuse of the service (rate limiting via hashed IP address)
  • To respond to your enquiries

We do not use your email address for marketing without your explicit consent. We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.

Legal basis for processing

We process your personal data on the following bases under UK GDPR:

  • Contract — processing necessary to perform the service you have requested (looking up valuation evidence and delivering your report)
  • Legitimate interests — abuse prevention via hashed IP rate limiting

Data sharing

To provide the service, we send your vehicle registration number, mileage, postcode, date of loss, and condition to our vehicle data provider(s) in order to retrieve valuation evidence. We do not send your name, email address, or financial details to data providers.

We use Cloudflare infrastructure for hosting and security (including bot protection). Cloudflare's privacy policy applies to traffic passing through their network.

Data retention

Retention periods will be confirmed and added here before commercial launch. As a general principle, we retain case data for as long as necessary to deliver the service and comply with legal obligations.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data (subject to legal retention obligations)
  • Object to or restrict processing in certain circumstances
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you believe your data has been mishandled
